Myer to Employ 3,000 iPad-Wielding Staff
In preparation for the crucial Christmas period, Myer is set to employ 3,000 iPad-wielding staff as part of its strategy to develop its omni-channel presence.

Myer have announced that they will employ 3,000 extra staff over the Christmas period with a specific focus on omni-channel retailing. As part of the retailer’s Christmas strategy, Myer’s Click & Collect service is set to receive significant attention. Myer has also stated that it wants digitally savvy sales assistants on the floor, armed with iPads and ready to help shoppers and order items on the spot, as necessary.
“Team member iPads are equipped with a My Customer Order app, which in essence brings the comprehensive range from our larger stores to customers shopping in our regional and suburban stores,” a Myer spokesperson told Power Retail.
Myer CEO Richard Umbers wants sales staff to sell products in an exciting and engaging way, using technology to add a new sparkle.
“Myer stores across the country are setting up our unique giftorium concept,” said Umbers, “complete with highly trained and digitally enabled gifticians who will find solutions for overwhelmingly time-poor Christmas shoppers.”
The focus on omni-channel development over the crucial Christmas period reflects the increased digital focus outlined in the New Myer Strategy and in Myer’s most recent annual report.
“Myer is committed to embracing the new retail environment through a seamless omni-channel offer and wonderful in-store experiences,” said a Myer spokesperson.
As part of its omni-channel focus, Myer will look to push its Click & Collect service over the Christmas period. “Our Click & Collect service will be popular again this Christmas,” a Myer spokesperson stated, “because it allows customers to choose their gifts online from their tablet, mobile or computer and then simply visit a dedicated counter in-store to pick up their purchase, saving time and with no delivery charges.”
Following on the great success UK retailer John Lewis has had with their click & collect service, which has now overtaken home delivery, Myer is looking to grow this service, particularly over the Christmas period.
